Artist Statement

My compositional interests include narrative structure, text setting, gestural shapes based on real-world physical motion, and (specifically in electro-acoustic pieces) methods of cross-synthesis between multiple concrete real-world sounds and between concrete and electronic sounds. Above all, I am drawn to works that bring personal stories and imagery to the foreground, giving a musical voice to human experience. I am interested in original observation and storytelling, presenting voices and stories across new lines of communication, and reconstructing aspects of existing musical genres or everyday life in unusual ways.
